Jon’s paternal grandfather was Ellis Kirby Meacham (the son of Cowan White Kirby Meacham and Eunice Jean Ellis). Ellis was a City Judge, attorney, and writer. Cowan was the son of Matthew Alexander Meacham and Alice Breckenridge Kirby. Eunice was the daughter of Samuel C. Ellis and Ida Roberta Mcleod.

Jon’s paternal grandmother was Jean Beuan/Bluan Austin (the daughter of James B. Austin and Ethel Mae Hand). Jean was an UTC professor and dean. James was born in Indiana, the son of George Austin, who was English, and of Katherine. Ethel was the daughter of Charles Louis Hand and Mary Virginia Kannapel.
