Rob Portman is an American politician and attorney. A Republican, he has been a U.S. Senator from Ohio, since January 3, 2011. He was previously a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Ohio, from May 4, 1993 to May 17, 2005, U.S. Trade Representative, from May 17, 2005 to May 29, 2006, and Director of the Office of Management and Budget, from May 29, 2006 to June 19, 2007.
Rob is the son of Joan (Jones) and William C. Portman II. He is married to Jane Dudley, with whom he has three children.
Rob’s paternal grandfather was Arthur Ball Portman (the son of Dr. Wilhelm/William Claudius Portmann and Emma Elizabeth Ball). Arthur was born in Minnesota. Wilhelm was Swiss, of Swiss-German descent, and was the son of Victor Portmann, from Herbertsville, and of Anna Marie Hug. Emma was the daughter of Ephraim Ball and Amanda Bale.
Rob’s paternal grandmother was Marian Peavler (the daughter of Samuel Fain Peavler and Nelly Fry Rutledge). Marian was born in Tennessee. Samuel was the son of Henry Peavler and Susannah Farris. Nelly was the daughter of Wade Presley Rutledge and Lucy G. Fry.
Rob’s maternal grandfather was Robert Howard Jones (the son of Samuel Rufus Jones and Mary Adele Yost). Rob’s grandfather Robert was born in Ohio. Samuel was the son of Samuel Jones and Anna Jay.
Rob’s maternal grandmother was Virginia Kunkle (the daughter of Albert Henry Kunkle and Margaret Paton McCulloch). Virginia was born in Ohio. Albert was the son of David Kunkle and Susanna Stouffer.
