Her father, Stephen Hawking, was a theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and author. Her mother, Jane Hawking, is an author and teacher.
Lucy has a son with her former husband, Alex Mackenzie Smith, who is a former member of the United Nations Peace Corps in Bosnia.
