Ditka’s maternal grandfather was David Peter Keller Jr., the son of David Peter Keller and Annetta Jane Lea. Annetta was the daughter of David Nelson Lea and Ellen Fryer. Annetta and her parents were all from Pennsylvania whereas Annetta’s husband David was born in Ohio, USA.
Ditka’s maternal grandmother was Myrtle E. Ashton, the daughter of Charles W. Ashton and Jennie M. Brady. Charles was born in Pennsylvania the son of Thomas E. Ashton and Harriet Fosnott. Jennie was born in Ohio, the daughter of Peter Brady and Mary A. Husey. Peter and Mary were both Irish.
Some sources say that Mike’s mother was of German ancestry. It is unclear if these claims are accurate.
