Grant Wood was an American painter. He is particularly known for his painting American Gothic (1930), depicting a farmer and his daughter, and for other depictions of the rural American Midwest.
Grant was the son of Hattie DeEtte (Weaver) and Francis Maryville Wood. He was raised partly in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. His sister was artist and art teacher Nan Wood Graham, who is the woman depicted in American Gothic.
