Ed McMahon was an American television personality, radio and television announcer, and actor. He was the sidekick and announcer for The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson from 1962 to 1992. He also hosted the television shows Star Search and TV’s Bloopers & Practical Jokes. He appeared in films such as Bewitched, The Weather Man, Love Affair, Fun with Dick and Jane, and The Incident.

He had five children.

Ed grew up mostly in Lowell, Massachusetts but also lived in New York, New Jersey, and Maine during his childhood. His father, Edward McMahon, was a traveling salesman and entertainer. His mother, Eleanor, was a theatre actress.

Ed’s father, Edward, was born in Massachusetts the son of Catherine and Joseph McMahon who were also born in Massachusetts. Ed’s paternal grandmother, Catherine, was the daughter of Catherine and Maurice/Morris Fitzgerald who both emigrated to the U.S. from Ireland. Ed’s paternal grandfather, Joseph, was the son of Ann and James McMahon who also emigrated to the U.S. from Ireland.

Ed’s mother, Eleanor, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania the daughter of Thomas Russell who was born in England, and Anna/Annie Lukens/Luckins.who was born in Pennsylvania. Ed’s maternal grandmother, Aquilla Reber (the daughter of Samuel Reber and Elizabeth Reed) was born in Pennsylvania. Samuel was born in Pennsylvania of Pennsylvania Dutch (German) descent. Elizabeth was born in Pennsylvania of Colonial American (English) and Pennsylvania Dutch (German) ancestry. Ed’s maternal grandfather, William Lukens/Luckins (the son of William Lukens/Luckins and Margaret Bingaman) was of Pennsylvania Dutch (German) descent.
