Zachary Taylor was an American politician. A member of the Whig Party, he served as the 12th President of the United States, from 1849 to 1850, when he died from an illness.
President Taylor’s paternal grandparents were Zachary Taylor (the son of James Taylor, Jr. and Martha Thompson) and Elizabeth Lee (the daughter of Hancock Lee and Sarah Allerton). Elizabeth was born in Hadleigh, Suffolk, England, to parents from Virginia.
President Taylor’s maternal grandparents were William Dabney Strother (the son of Francis Strother and Susannah Dabney) and Sarah Bayly (the daughter of Samuel Bailey, Jr. and Elizabeth Baker).
